Trip - Taishan Village Day 2 (video)

Today we visited R’s place of birth… a small little village with like 12 houses in Taishan?  There are only 2 families still living here and everyone else has immigrated to Canada or the US.  The house was built by Ye Ye's grandfather!  When I walked into the house, it felt like I was on a movie set, you know, in those kek japs with the old Chinese villages with cement homes.  Here's a video of the house...kinda shaky but it was hard to capture good angles with such tight space:

There are 4 levels to this house but only the first and second floor is livable space.  The third and fourth floors are open areas on the roof.

On the first floor, there are 2 separate units with a middle common area that everyone uses. Here is the common area:

Here is Lo Ye and Lai Lai's side:

That evening, several of Lo Ye's old village friends came out for dinner.  One thing I noticed is how light Lo Ye's skin is compared to the others.  I guess that's cus he doesn't work in the fields anymore.

At dinner, an interesting incident happened.  We told the kitchen people that we have nut allergies in the family and they ensured they will not use peanut oil or have nuts in the food.  As Jasmine was eating her fish, she found a large piece of peanut in it!  They sprinkled peanut pieces on the food!  So lucky she caught it and didn't eat it.

Look at all the yummy seafood!  We had 2 tables, each with 10 dishes and the total came to a little over $200 CDN.  What a deal!

Wow, the home really looks like in the ket japs! Nice view from the top too. Can't believe a seafood dinner for $100/table. Looks like a nice family gathering.
