Halloween 2012

This is our first Halloween at the new house so we decorated the outside of the house with a monster, skull, spiders and web, pumpkins...  The kids loved it.  It's too bad there were only 3 houses on our street that handed out treats so we had to clobber all the treats in the small complex a block away.  A terrific find!  There were about 20 units in the complex and the doors were close together.  After an hour and the kid's bags were full!

When we walked home, the inlaws informed that it's been non-stop people coming to the house.  We actually ran out!  Lucky the kids brought tons home so we handed out some of their treats out.... shhhh, don't tell them!   This year, Jas dressed as a pink butterfly and Jul was a green dragon.

Sugar Cookies? Yup, with Spiders Please

I guess the spider halloween sugar cookies turned out ok... the second batch anyways.

Jas had halloween party at school so I baked egg-free and nut-free sugar cookies for the class.  I added a spider candy on top as decoration. I made about 36 cookies but unfortunately, half of them were burnt.  I had just enough to send to class.

This was the recipe I used:

1 lb. butter
2 c. sugar
3 c. flour (mixed wheat and rice flour)
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
Cream together butter and sugar.  Sift dry ingredients together and mix into creamed mixture. Roll into small balls and place on an ungreased cookie sheet.  Press slightly with a fork dipped in sugar. Bake at 350 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes until lightly browned.

Angry, Angry, Angry Birds?

Can you tell the girls are crazed over angry birds?  They love the game, the short cartoons and the dolls.  They carry the dolls around the house from room to room and even sleep with them in their bed.  They can't get enough of it!

Needles? I'm not Scared.

Jas just had her appointment at the Biochemical department a couple of weeks ago and we were informed that more testing is needed.  One of her enzymes in her digestive system was elevated during her fasting test.  So... she needs to have xray and ultrasound of her liver and also have her DNA tested.

The xray and ultrasounds I'm not concerned about, but it's the DNA testing that worries me.  Blood test.  Eeeeeeek!  Jas hates having her blood taken.

Today was the day to get her blood taken.  Luckily, it was Rich who had to take her in the morning (blood test can only be done on Monday or Tuesday mornings) so I was saved from the heartache.  But I'm not sure why I was so worried at all.  Apparently, Jas was happy to lift up her sleeve and put it on the table for the blood test.  She cried for a bit but calmed down quite soon after.  She wasn't scared at all!  Phewf.  I'm just glad it is over.

More Night Wakings...

Ok, so it's been 3 weeks now.  Julia's been waking up every night consistently, screaming her head off.  Piercing scream, like she's scared?  Please get over this phase soon...
